During this pre-holiday season, we have one day for giving thanks and two for getting deals. Why not take a day from the shopping frenzy to feel wonderful about supporting the hard-working nonprofits of Central New York? How? GivingTuesdayTM is a national movement established to mobilize charities, families, businesses, nonprofits and people like you and us, to come together and give more. This year, on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, the Central New York Community Foundation invites you to participate in #GivingTuesdayCNY by voting for the nonprofit you feel deserves $5,000. What can your favorite nonprofit do with $5,000? I’m sure they can do a lot more good.
Our nonprofits are full of people like you and us, who volunteer for the benefit of local charities. Don’t our pantries, afterschool programs, shelters and so many others deserve to have attention rallied around them? This December 3rd, don’t just encourage others to vote for their favorite nonprofits but truly consider them —their needs and their work— and what else we can each do to help them accomplish their missions.
About the Competition
Voting doesn’t begin until December 3, so mark your calendars so you don’t forget to have your voice heard on that day! The rules are pretty straight forward: Vote via Twitter or Facebook. Tweet the name of your favorite nonprofit along with the hashtag #GivingTuesdayCNY or write on the CNYCF Facebook Page wall with the name of your favorite nonprofit and the hashtag #GivingTuesdayCNY. Sharing and commenting will not count as votes but we encourage you to talk about #GivingTuesdayCNY with your friends and encourage your social networks to vote as well.

By the way, what is the Community Foundation?
Established in 1927, the Central New York Community Foundation encourages local philanthropy by supporting the growth of a permanent charitable endowment for the betterment of the region. The Community Foundation awards grants to various Central New York nonprofit organizations and is the steward of more than 600 charitable funds. It also serves as a civic leader, convener and sponsor of special initiatives designed to strengthen nonprofits that address the region’s most pressing challenges.
